Common drapery alteration services we provide.
Length adjustments
Draperies that are too long or too short for a new space can be re-hemmed to the correct floor or sill clearance. The original hem, fabric condition, and available allowance determine the changes we can make.
Width adjustments
Panels that are too wide for a new window can be taken in. Panels that need more coverage can sometimes be extended with coordinating fabric or lining.
Header and pleat changes
Pinch-pleat, goblet, ripple-fold, and rod-pocket headers can be converted to suit a different rod or track system. This may be useful when hardware changes or treatments move between rooms.
Lining replacement
Worn, yellowed, or damaged lining can be replaced with new blackout, thermal, or standard lining without replacing the face fabric.
Re-hanging and re-fitting
If treatments have moved to a new home or a room has been remodeled, we can re-assess the fit, adjust the hardware, and re-hang the panels for the new window.
Cleaning and pressing
We can advise on appropriate cleaning methods for your fabric and press treatments back to a crisp, finished appearance after cleaning or storage.
Alter or replace?
When to alter your drapery vs. replace it.
Alterations make sense when the fabric is in good condition and the change needed is structural: length, width, header, or lining. If the fabric is faded, worn, or simply no longer suits the room, replacement is usually the better investment.
We'll look at your treatments and tell you plainly which path makes more sense. There's no pressure to replace when a good alteration will do the job.

Questions about drapery alterations
Do you alter curtains as well as drapery panels?
Yes. Curtains and drapery panels are both altered. The common changes are length and hem, lining, header style, and width where the existing fabric allows it.
Can existing drapery be shortened or lengthened?
Shortening is usually straightforward. Lengthening depends on how much hem allowance was left in the original panel and whether matching fabric can be sourced, so it is assessed panel by panel.
Can lining be added or replaced?
Lining can be added to unlined panels or replaced on lined ones, including changes to blackout or interlining. The existing fabric and header are reviewed first to confirm the panel will hang correctly afterwards.
Can the header style be changed?
Header changes such as pinch pleat, ripplefold or rod pocket are possible, though the change affects finished length and the hardware the panel hangs from. Both are assessed together rather than separately.
How do I know whether to alter or replace drapery?
It depends on the condition of the fabric and lining, how much alteration the panel needs, and whether the current hardware still suits the window. We assess the treatment and say plainly when replacement is the better value.
Is altering drapery cheaper than replacing it?
An alteration may cost less, but the answer depends on the work and fabric condition. We’ll assess your panels and explain the options before you decide. Heavily sun-damaged or worn fabric may be better replaced.
